[QODBC-Desktop] QODBC with QRemote Client Driver Licensing Requirements (2025) - SQL Server

The types of licenses needed vary based on your requirements and your environment setup.

Please see the following details for information on QODBC and QRemote licensing while using QuickBooks remotely.

1) SQL Server or Service Based applications accessing QuickBooks remotely:

Machine A - QuickBooks, QODBC, QRemote Server, and QuickBooks company file
Machine B - QRemote Client, SQL Server, and SQL Server Management Studio

License
Machine A – QODBC Server Edition License
Machine B – QRemote License

 

2) SQL Server or Service Based applications accessing QuickBooks remotely – QuickBooks company file on a different machine:

Note: Accessing a QuickBooks company file from a different computer or shared drive can impact the performance of both QuickBooks and QODBC. Thus, we do not recommend such an environment setup. To achieve the best performance, it is advisable to run QODBC, the QuickBooks application, and the QuickBooks company file on the same computer.

Machine A - QuickBooks, QODBC, QRemote Server
Machine B - QRemote Client, SQL Server, and SQL Server Management Studio
Machine C – QuickBooks company file

License
Machine A – QODBC Server Edition License
Machine B – QRemote License
Machine C – No QODBC / QRemote License
