Hi Ben,
I would like to suggest you please use QRemote to connect QuickBooks data remotely. Please refer below mentioned link for Accessing QuickBooks Data Remotely using QODBC & QRemote.

the error that there is a windows issue keeps happening to me. I have tried 5 times following all the instructions I can find. What on earth is going wrong with this QODBC???

Hi Marco,
I kindly request you please keep QuickBooks running & test connection through VB Demo application.
If VB Demo can connect, you should be able to use QODBC with your application(s). You may ignore the Test Connection windows security message as Test Connection may fail if it is executed in a different user context then normal user and there is no need to test connection via QODBC Setup Screen once it has passed connect via VB Demo.

4) QODBC Setup Screen -- > Messages -- > Review SDK Messages
