[QODBC-Desktop] Unrecoverable error when opening QuickBooks after updating to 2012 R14
Posted by Rajendra Dewani (QODBC Support) on 02 July 2013 08:19 AM

Issue :

After updating to QuickBooks 2012 R14, you may encounter Unrecoverable Error XXXXX XXXXX (the codes can appear random) while opening your company file.

or

I could not open the QuickBooks company file after the update.

Solution

If you have updated to QuickBooks 2012 R14 and you get an “unrecoverable error” when opening the file:

  • Start QuickBooks by double-clicking on the QuickBooks icon while holding down the CTRL key. You’ll get the “No Company Open” screen. Note, this is NOT the “ALT” key as before. QuickBooks will not open a company file if you start this way.
  • Select Help from the main menu.
  • Select Update QuickBooks from the Help menu.
  • Click the update Now tab.
  • Make sure that the “New Features” option in the list has a checkmark (others can be checked, that doesn’t matter).
  • Click the Get Updates button.
  • Once the update is complete, close QuickBooks.

This should resolve the problem, and you can open your company file.

See this Intuit support article for details.

Today I downloaded the current QODBC (desktop version) setup executable. Then -- after first un-installing QODBC version 12, which had been installed two years ago and used only for evaluation -- I clicked on the current version's setup executable, and installed it, for evaluation purposes, without purchasing a license. On completion of the installation, I opened the "Setup Screen" and selected the path to the company QB data file, to be opened in multi-user mode, etc. We are using Quickbooks 2012 Premier. Quickbooks was running on my desktop at the time (to our company QB data file). In the QODBC setup screen, I then clicked the "Test Connection" button. After a pause, Quickbooks itself prompted me as to whether to allow QODBC as an "integrated application". I specified to allow it. After another pause, QODBC showed me a message box saying: "QODBC not licensed for this Quickbooks edition", and also indicating "Serial Number W07U10015360 licensed to International Press". That is an old registration for QODBC version 7, from several years ago. In this message box, I clicked the "Finish button" to closse the message box. Then, QODBC showed me another message box, saying: "Test Connection to Quickbooks failed. [QODBC] evaluation license has expired! Please contact your dealer for the latest version." Please help me to get QODBC version 12 working in evaluation mode, so that I can re-evaluate the product.
Thanks.

Hi Brian,

Serial Number W07U10015360 is For QODBC v07 to use with QuickBooks 2007 and below.

QODBC licensing is not upward compatible only backwards, meaning you would need a registered version 15 QODBC CDKey to work with QuickBooks 2015. When a new version of QuickBooks is released, we have to add the new version features that QuickBooks makes available to us such as new data tables, fields and any new reports included in the new edition. We also need to insure that all of the previous features and functionality that we made available in the past still work, along with any new functionality we add to QODBC such as the QRemote feature.

If you had QODBC v12 on that machine earlier and had used it for more than 30 days, QODBC v15 will not start evaluation.

I kindly request you to get in touch with our Sales team to upgrade your QODBC License.
