[QODBC Online] General Ledger Report Quantity Values Exported as Integers Instead of Floats
Problem Description:
In certain versions of QODBC Online (including the QXL tool), running a General Ledger report query causes the Quantity values to be exported as integers instead of floating-point numbers, leading to data inaccuracies in external reports and spreadsheets.
Affected products: QODBC Online, QXL Online, QuickBooks Online Expected outcome: Quantity values in General Ledger report results are returned as floating-point numbers, preserving the decimal precision from the source data.
Symptoms:
- General Ledger report quantity columns show whole numbers (e.g.,
5) instead of the actual value (e.g., 5.25 or 0.75).
- The values appear correct in QuickBooks Online but are truncated when exported via QODBC Online.
- The issue only affects quantity-type fields - monetary amounts (Amount, etc.) are unaffected and retain proper decimal precision.
Cause:
A bug in QODBC Online's report processing (tracked as B01712 (The issue has been fixed and released in QODBC Online version 358.)) caused the Quantity column to be cast to an integer type during the export pipeline, discarding any fractional portion of the value. This is a data type mapping issue in the QOL reporting engine, not a QuickBooks Online or customer-side problem.
Environment:
| Product | Version / Detail |
| QODBC Online |
Affected in versions prior to the fix for B01712. |
| QXL Online |
The QXL Excel add-in reads from QODBC Online; affected when connected to an impacted QOL version. |
| QuickBooks Online |
All plans - the issue is in QODBC's reporting layer, not QBO data. |
Resolution:
- Upgrade to a version that contains the fix for B01712.
The issue was resolved in beta build B01711-13-beta_2024-06-28. Upgrade by downloading and installing the fixed version.
- Install the updated QXL Online (if applicable).
- Close all applications that use QXL or QuickBooks.
- Uninstall the current version of QXL Online.
- Install the latest version from the QODBC download page.
- Restart your computer.
- Open QXL Online → Settings/Options → About tab to verify the version is updated.
- Re-run your General Ledger report. Quantity values should now appear with full decimal precision.
SQL Examples:
Affected query (returns truncated quantities in prior versions):
EXEC sp_report GeneralLedger SHOW RowData, Date, TransactionType, Name, Memo, Split, Amount, Quantity PARAMETERS DateFrom = '2024-01-01', DateTo = '2024-03-31'
In affected versions, the Quantity column returns integers. After upgrading to the fixed version, Quantity values are returned as floating-point numbers with full precision.
Example Scenarios:
Scenario 1 - Inventory quantity tracking:
A customer runs General Ledger reports for inventory accounts and notices quantities like 25.5 appearing as 25. This causes inventory reconciliation mismatches because the fractional portion (partial shipments, adjustments) is lost in QODBC's export.
Additional Notes:
- This bug only affects QODBC Online / QXL reports. Direct queries against transaction tables (e.g.,
SELECT Quantity FROM TransactionLine) are not affected - the issue is specific to the sp_report GeneralLedger report pipeline.
- Bug B01712 status: The fix was first released in beta build B01711-13-beta_2024-06-28. Check the QODBC release notes to confirm whether the fix is included in your current version.
- CDKey preservation: When upgrading from a beta build, do not deactivate your existing CDKEY - the installation preserves it.
