[QODBC-Online] Troubleshooting: Losing Connection to QuickBooks Online When QODBC is Idle for sometime
Posted by Rajendra Dewani (QODBC Support) on 11 January 2013 09:28 AM

This method is Discontinued. Please refer new product QODBC for QuickBooks Online:

How to Reconnect QODBC Online with QuickBooks Online Edition (Apps.com)

Problem Description:

When using QODBC to connect with QuickBooks Online, it works without problems. It works only when the user inputs the login key again. But when there are no operations for about 2 to 3 hours, the connection will break.

Solution 1:

In order to use QODBC to access QuickBooks Online, users must keep logging into QuickBooks Online. Due to security reasons, the QuickBooks Online Edition user automatically logs out if there is no operation input for a certain time. This is a limit from QuickBooks Online Edition, and QODBC has no authority to modify it.

As a work-through method, you can try to set a timer and run a simple query every 2 or 3 minutes to keep the connection alive. For example, you can run the simple select query like:

SELECT * FROM Customer

or

SELECT * FROM Customer where ListID='000000-000000'

Solution 2:

The alternative is to generate Login Key and save it to DSN Configuration/QODBC Setup Screen

Hi,

I would like to inform you that QuickBooks Online SDK is shutdown.

QODBC was built on the QuickBooks SDK (development kit) back in 2002 and support for the QuickBooks Online Edition was added later. At that time, one driver served both Desktop and Online editions of QuickBooks. With their new cloud version of QuickBooks Online, Intuit is phasing out that development kit and replacing it with a new developers system. This system is designed for desktop applications, not windows drivers like ODBC.
